Sourtopía is a Uruguayan sour beer brand brewing experimental beer infused with different fruits for a unique taste experience. The design is done by Estudio Mundial during my time of interning there.
As sour beer is not common in Uruguay it was important to differentiate Sourtopía visually from other beers on the market, to show that this is something different from your run-of-the-mill pilsner. As Sourtopía will be many Uruguayans’ first experience with sour beer - or as it is called in Spanish: cerveza ácida - the concept formed around inviting the user on a journey which will alter their perception of what beer can be.
To do this we found inspiration in the acid-infused art of 60s psychedelia, and came up with the concept of an ever-repeating journey taking place on the can. The illustrated packaging serves to highlight the adventurous nature of the beer variations, and shows our imagining of what a sour beer-based utopia could look like.
I worked on this project as part of the team at Estudio Mundial from the first to the final stages of the process. In the project I contributed with concept development and the illustration and composition used in the final design with the guidance and collaboration from the rest of the Mundial team.
